Holladay Memorial Cemetery & Salt Lake Peace Mausoleum
Below Mount Olympus, the historic Holladay Memorial Park offers a tranquil sanctuary for the memories of your loved one. After entering the Salt Lake Valley, Brigham Young created five ward cemeteries, one of which was Holladay Cemetery. Holladay Cemetery was the first Utah pioneer cemetery outside of Salt Lake City. In 1848, when the first pioneer death occurred in Holladay, the cemetery knoll in the southeast section overlooking lowland watery meadows and a cottonwood creek was selected as a community cemetery. For 127 years, local LDS church leaders oversaw the 13-acre cemetery.
Holladay offers two beautiful rose-colored granite outdoor mausoleums for people not wishing to be buried. Soon, the Salt Lake Valley Peace Mausoleum will be a unique state-of-the-art final resting place for your loved one. The two-story, climate-controlled mausoleum will feature family crypts, a meditation room, committal chapel, and a family heritage room.
In a secluded nook of the cemetery, Hope Springs Cremation Garden is reserved for quiet contemplation. In the center a beautiful rock water fountain is surrounded by flowers. Bronze statues of children reading and playing create a welcome atmosphere.
Our windchime garden sets the cemetery apart and brings back memories of backyard gatherings and front porch afternoon naps. We encourage families to bring in windchimes in memory of a loved one and place them in the gazebo.
Old headstones dating from the 1800s are dotted across the hill and tell the story of the Holladay area. This cemetery is the burial place of early pioneers and settlers. From any place in the cemetery, the view of Mount Olympus is spectacular. The cemetery is a quiet, serene place of remembrance tucked into a quaint neighborhood. It is a landmark that offers convenience, history and peace.
